I'm going with 10 as the answer as the question says and frames, which made me think there must be frames somewhere on the site too otherwise they wouldn't have said 'and frames' in the question, and then I found them 3 Cyclecross frames as well as the 7 bikes.

The difference between you and weeowens isn't as simple as the frames. weeowens link, which is the one on the comp page, includes 3 frames.
You have found your link by searching for cyclocross and the result includes 3 CrossRip bikes that are not included in weeowens link.
The question is, are the CrossRip bikes Cyclocross bikes or not?

I feel that you are strictly correct with 10 but I'm a bit concerned that the comp page only talks about Boone and Crockett bikes and their link takes you a page that only shows these and does not mention CrossRip.

On the Trek site HERE, they are classing the CrossRip bikes as "Fitness" bikes but at the same time I have found that Evans Cycles does classify them as Cyclocross. Where's that coin weeowens?

I'm going with 7. The link within the comp clearly heads to a page where there are 7 models. Clicking onto each shows the 4/3 split.

Yes, after much consideration, I think the answer they want is 7.
The comp text suggests you go to the Trek site to find the answer and gives you a link that shows you 7 cyclocross bikes and frames and if you follow any links on the site for cyclocross bikes, it always comes to that same page.
Additionally, I think that MaineBlue's search link could be flawed. You get to that page by going to the site menu page and putting "cyclocross" into the search and I'm guessing that this search is including the 3 CrossRip bikes simply because "Cross" is included in the search and it's matching this with the "Cross" in the bikes name.

I've been looking to buy a cross bike for 6 months now to replace my old knackered MTB for commuting and off-road touring but decent ones are so expense.....fingers and toes crossed!
