Rats in our house, what are my rights?

I will reply about all other replies above in regards to the rat.
NEW PROBLEM
Electricity went last night due to rainfall flooding the electrics. They fixed that apparently (I'm currently at work) but haven't sent someone yet to fix the electric. I'm going to ring again at 5.30 before they close and tell them that if no one has been yet I'm ordering an emergency electrician and charging them the bill. We have a house of 8 or so people to back this up and for that many people this should be fixed urgently IMO.
I'm doing this either way but, my legal right in this situation?
Remember this is based on the fact that they have not ever fixed an issue in prompt time, and so i feel as a tenant that I have to take this into my own hands.0 -

I totally realise this is an emergency.., but I suspect you are going to have problems getting the money back.., from your fellow tenants or the LL.
Personally, failure of the electric is good enough reason to move out. Take pics of all that is wrong with the house and if that other place is available and you can.., move tomorrow. Call the council, see if you can get environmental health to take notice of conditions in the house.0 -
The PA got the problem fixed, after I called them up twice whilst I was at work and sent a few strong emails. So thankfully as I got home from work, we have electricity.
I'll move out as soon as I can even before my rent is up on the 18th (already said I'm leaving 18th, month in advance given). With all the problems, and pictures I have which is a lot of all the problems we've had, I will be demanding a refund of rent leftover if I move out earlier, at the very least.0 -
