12 months ago i signed up with talk talk for telephone and broadband - as there was no line to my property talk talk had one installed as part of the deal - this was done by Openreach subcontractor and i have an Openreach branded telephone socket - i now want to swap to EE for phone and broadband as they can offer much cheaper deal than TT taking cashback into account but when i put my phone and address details into EE site it claims i will need a new line install costing £30?? on contacting EE they claim they can only supply services over a BT line which is why i need an install but surely a line installed by Openreach is a BT line and its only at the exchange where TT or other kit takes over?? surely i dont need another telephone line installed every time i switch provider?? confused +++

If the line was installed by OR on a TT order, you may find they have a lock-in period to prevent you leaving (esp if it was free). 18 months is the normal duration.0

It is more likely that the telephone line is is an MPF line on Talk Talk's LLU network.
The wires belong to Openreach but Talk Talk install their own equipment in or near to the exchange to provide phone and broadband services.
You shouldn't need a new line as most providers can just transfer the line over to them and port the number however in this case it looks as though EE can't/won't do that.0 -
I'd say "new line install" is poor wording for "activation charge".
Not sure who/what EE use behind the scenes, but I'm guessing it's WLR3 (Openreach Wholesale Line Rental) so it would technically be a new provision and cease of service with TalkTalk.0 -

EE use WLR3 for voice and a BT wholesale product for broadband.
EE do not offer a number portabilty service from LLU providers, no idea why as they use exactly the same Openreach/BT wholesale systems and services that BT Retail use so it is possible for them to do it but they seem to choose not to.0
