Hey everyone!

I need your help with my car insurance. My insurance are going to expire in 4 weeks time and I don't want to insure for the year now because of the time that come close to Christmas which it will cost me alot of money. I want to insure for 6 months and then after that I will insure for the year.

I know it sound like a bit silly, but I don't want to spend alot of money by insure for the year in each time when the time come close to Christmas. I want to insure from December to May then insure for the year to get out of the way. I have done it the same things for MOT and tax, so now I need to sort out with the insurance.

When I bought the old cars, I was insured to May and I had MOT and tax which it was due to end of May. So I want to do the same for my new car. I bought my new car in December 2011, I'm on the insure to December for the year and my MOT and tax was due to December so I changed to May now.

If I insure for one year, I will get confused and I will forget what months the MOT, tax and insurance are due to run out, so it will be easy for me to remember that I get the insurance due to May the same month as my MOT and tax which are due to May in each year to make it the same as my previous cars.

Do I need to insure on monthly or quarterly?

If not, do you know in what ways it will make it cheaper for me?

  • Just insure it now, pay monthly. Buy a 2015 calendar. Simple.

    Loving your logic.

Monthly will be a new policy every 30 days and six months will probably cost more than twelve that way.

    Quarterly? Never heard of it.

Just pay in instalments. Cancelling after 6 months would incur a cancelation fee and loss of that years no claims.

Thank you for your quick reply guys and thank you for your advice.

I think I can pay monthly on my insurance, but the trouble is if I cancel on monthly, will i have to pay to my insurance for the whole cost that they have loss?

Pay monthly for 12 months. If you have a claim you cannot cancel and get a refund.

No it's still a years contract. You can cancel it of course, but you'll potentially still have to pay them a cancellation fee on top, as you're essentially taking out credit to repay the annual renewal over 12 installments.

You can take out temp insurance or cancel it in 6 months, but it's going to cost you a lot of money just to move the renewal to May.

Just buy it in December and pay for it monthly, set up a reminder for November to look into it again.

You are buying 12 months insurance but they allow you to pay monthly so there maybe a cancellation charge.
