Amex Platinum Cashback card: Do we lose cashback if we don't extend for another year?

Options
Hello,
I've almost finished my first year on the Amex Platinum Cashback card and have accumulated some cashback. I know the cashback is supposed to be credit after one full year, in the anniversary month. Does this mean that if I don't extend the card for another year, i.e., pay another GBP 25 annual fee, I lose the cashback or is it granted any other way?

Best,
Bob

I haven't reached this point yet, but that's clearly what the T&Cs imply. However they also say that they may credit cashback earlier in some circumstances.

It sounds to me like if you call to cancel and ask nicely you might get to keep your cashback, but as per the T&Cs they're not obligated to pay it if you cancel before the usual payment date.

The annual fee is charged pro rata when you cancel it, so wait till you get your cashback and then cancel it. You'll only pay a penny or two in cash back then
