hi I recently checked my file and discovered I received a ccj two years ago and obviously my credit score is poor. I don't earn a lot and I have found out if I decide to set up a payment now it will stay on my record for 6 years or I could ignore it and it would disappear in 4. the debt was to a credit card I got when I was younger that got out of control with fines

Hi Stemidd8,
The CCJ will stay on your credit report for 6 years from the date it was recorded whether you pay it off or not. After this time it comes off automatically.
If you are thinking of applying for credit lenders prefer to see a paid CCJ than an outstanding one.
Our Ask James page covers how to deal with CCJs that you don't recognise here
