Difference between Barclays Cash Card and Current Account

Hi,

I have a Barclays Cash Card account, had it for years since I ran into some money troubles. I've a decent credit file now but never bothered upgrading the account. It does everything a normal account would do and I've learned my lesson so don't need / want an overdraft.

What's the difference between Cash Card and Current Accounts? Are there any other reasons it's worth upgrading for?

I think with the cash card you cannot make online purchases and you are allowed to withdraw money only from Barclays ATM's. Also the cash card it is not reported to the Credit Reference Agencies.

That used to be the way (It was a pain Too) but my card was upgraded to a Visa years ago that can be used just like all other debit cards. This is part of the reason for my post, there's no obvious reason why my account is worse than a current account - internet banking I guess is the main thing I miss.

My Cash Card account has always reported to all three reference agencies too.
  • you should be able to have internet banking even with a cash card account - I did

Ah, I never realised that lol! Thought it was because it was a Cash Card that I couldn't have internet banking lol!

Other than the lack of an overdraft, or the ability to apply for one there is no difference between the accounts, in my experience certainly.

The only difference is you will not be building up an Internal Score and will not get preapproved offers for Credit Cards and Loans.
