Cloud backup that doesnt force you to use a single folder?

I'm looking for a cloud backup service that can keep continuous backups of a number of folders on my PC as I change the contents of them. Some are photo folders some are not.

I am quite happy where these folders are currently located on my hard drive, and do not want to move them.

It seems that every cloud backup service I find wants to create a single "sync" folder into which I must place all the folders I wish to be backed up. I want to be able to nominate at least one folder (ideally multiple folders) without having to change it's name, which can then be backed up, but this seems impossible!

Dropbox, Google drive, Box, Copy etc etc, they all want to create a folder somewhere on your computer which is the named "Dropbox" or "Google drive". True I can move the folder to any location, but it always then creates a folder inside called "Dropbox" etc etc.

Are there any cloud backup services that offer the facility to nominate a folder to backup without renaming it?

Cubby is another one where you can sync folders individually without moving them

With "copy" you can put a shortcut to the folder you want to mirror in the copy folder.

Didn't know that - good tip, I'll try it :)

Just for a bit of background - Sugar Sync works well most of the time, but with the extra power of being able to sync what you choose comes the complexity if things go wrong. I used it to successfully sync 2 macs and 2 PC's when my former boss used to put everything on his Mac desktop (which he needed to sync between his devices) but I just needed a subset of those folders sync with a folder on a PC deep inside my documents in a folder for his stuff. Worked a treat until it didn't. It's possible to create logical loops if you're careless, and end up trying to sync the internet. For simpler use cases, it works.

If your usecase is backup, you want a backup product like Crashplan or Mozy or Carbonite, rather than repurposing a cloud storage product.

There you go, you're right - those are likely to be much more suitable for me! Thanks.

Even so, once you've done your backup, you should still consider using a cloud service to store a (suitably encrypted) copy.

A backup on a hard drive sitting on top of the PC isn't much use if it gets nicked/flooded/etc at the same time :)

Er, the services I named _are_ cloud services.

I have about 2TB with one of them, plus another copy on-site. So to lose data, I need to have a fire (etc) at home at the same time as the company goes bust. That's low-probability.
