Glad to hear that repairing blown windows is usually straightforward. We have a couple of panes that need fixed in our huge front window (basically the front of our house). Luckily for us, it is a couple of the smaller, non-opening bits that have gone.
I think your description of Gordon Brown's autobiography could also be used as his epitaph
