Sorry about your fall Beanie and Sunshine. Hope you recover quickly.
Well done on doing that file. I've talked to my family about said file - but it has fallen into disuse - so I need to reinstate it. I have told them the password for my laptop though which has my finance spreadsheets on it.

As I'm assuming a single person's benefits would cease on death, I would think you would only have to keep the latest paperwork showing benefit and DWP contact details so DS could contact them to let them know. I may be wrong though - perhaps another poster may know? Finally Debt Free! - July 2016 🌟

I would just keep the latest letter. That’s what I do with Mr SA’s.How lovely to find the letters but bittersweet memories I guess. I’m the same when songs come on the radio from the early 80s, happy memories of carefree days but also makes me feel sad those days are long gone.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping) -.literally have been run over by a bike, mobility scooter and a car - still here 💪3

When my OH died and I went to register his death, I used the 'Tell Us Once' service What to do after someone dies: Tell Us Once - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) . that dealt with loads of things such as his benefits, PIP, blue badge, GP and health details, council tax, passport, driving licence etc. I'd only keep a recent letter with something like NI number on it and a list of benefits. Its a useful service and cuts down a lot on the places an executor has to contact.3

You have to keep tax paperwork 6 years. With the state of the benefits system and them claiming back from people who they have allegedly wrongly paid I would be tempted to keep a few years ….3

Thanks everyone. Yes, have kept pension P60's for 6 or 7 years back & contact details for pension centre.I had pension forecasts from my previous employer. They ae now shredded as the pension has been in payment for many years! Certainly had my money's worth out of that as I have received so much more than I ever paid in.I am a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Mortgage Free Wannabe & Local Money Saving Scotland & Disability Money Matters.
