How many hours is the masters? Most students manage to work along side their study, especially at masters level (if they're not sponsored). Maybe it's not the right time for him to do it if it's not all falling into place. Maybe a stint at a full time job would get some savings behind him to keep him going in a few years?

DD1 did look at a masters but decided the extra few years in the job itself would be far more beneficial. I know that's not the case with all subjects.

Is his partner earning enough to support them both and he could do some evening bar work or the like to bring in extras?

In DS's subject it is beneficial for him to do Masters now.
He has a part time job already.
His GF will get funding for hers as a taught Masters & not a research Masters.
Currently very high level discussions going on in his University so we shall see what happens next.
His fees are going to be covered and at least part of his living costs are being covered by close family members.
