Amazon wants me to upgrade browser

I was about to log in to Amazon when I noticed a message at the top of the screen which said my browser needed upgrading if I wanted to continue using Amazon. This was because of security concerns. Last time I tried to upgrade the IE browser, I was told that I was using the latest version available for my computer which is runnning Windows Vista. Is Amazon right? Do I need to upgrade to something else? Thanks.

You probably won't get a later version of IE for Vista than you have. If a later version isn't offered to you in Window Updates then you'll have to use an alternative browser eg Chrome or Firefox being 2 other popular programs.

Amazon's recommendation is because the version of IE you are using is not as secure as later versions for Windows 7 and 8/8.1.

Are they right yes as you are probably running an old version of IE if is a Vista machine .
Multiple browsers available Firefox and Chrome are both up to date but not really sure if they work on Vista .

Does this mean that the browser is insecure for other websites as well as Amazon? I have never been asked to do this with banks or any other website.

Another thought, a company called Comodo that offers some pretty decent free internet security and anti virus software also offer free browsers. "DRAGON" is essentially a more secure version of Google Chrome and "ICE DRAGON" is a more secure version of Firefox.

You can read about both on the Comodo website: https://www.comodo.com/home/browsers

Haven't installed either for a while so I'd advise watching any installation process carefully and untick any boxes offering third party applications.

Possibly. Personally , I wouldn't be doing internet banking or entering credit card details in an older version of IE just not worth the risk.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone. I will investigate what has been suggested and download a more up to date browser.
