I don't mind not being able to sell the games on Steam as I only buy them when there's a big discount on them, despite the reduced value of the digital Xbox One games they were still going to charge full price.
Well, they never said they were "going to charge full price" (whatever "full price" would have meant after the switch to account-based gaming), but assuming that was going to be true, you didn't have to buy them from Microsoft. You could buy them from Amazon or Game or Tesco or any of the other places that normal people buy games. (Although ironically, despite the general complaints about Xbox Live prices and the backlash over the proposed move to account-based gaming, the best pre-order console prices seem to be from XBLHK!)

In much the same way, Steam rarely has the historical cheapest prices for Steam games - MSEs buy them from elsewhere. I fund my Steam wallet with US$10 twice a year to play in the Summer and Winter events, but don't make any other Steam purchases beyond that contribution (and trading card sales).

and to answer one, it's not the first time I've bought a game only for it to turn out to be dire - or for the most part had the mispleasure of playing it at work and it turned out to be a turkey. For as much as I get the good stuff in probably 99 out of 100 games I buy, there is the odd one which I get wrong!
I'm probably at about the same ratio - about 1/100 purchased games not being enjoyable for me (AC3 and GTAIV). A small price to pay for the convenience involved!
Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.

Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.
  • As stated enemy unknown and enemy within are amazing, 2k really did justice to this game (I played it to death when i was a kid) got them for about 3 pound each.

Think my last purchase was a 3 for 2 at game - Mw3, hitman absolution and nfs hot pursuit for £6. Sold nfs for about £4 on its own.
