I think the points made earlier on going cold turkey/not going cold turkey are well made- what works for some people just doesn't work for others, and just because someone can't strip back as much as someone else doesn't make them 'worse' in any way. I don't do very well when I try to strip back completely, especially as I then feel like a terrible person when I fail, so I'm trying again in a slightly more lenient way.

Debt journeys are personal, and can attract a lot of judgement and stigma, occasionally even on friendly places like the MSE forums. Good luck on yours, and try to keep heading in the right direction and stay positive.

  • I've also come across an app called true budget where you add details of your regular bills and income as well as your payday.

As you spend the money it tells you how many days to the next pay day and how much that equates to how much you can spend each day.

Going to give it a whirl this month and see how it goes,

  • Hey Bethany,

I found a new app at the weekend which made me think of you after I read this thread on Friday!

It's called "Way of Life" and is designed to help track your habits to help you beat any bad ones, I've downloaded it to curb my spending.

You can pick 3 (or more but then you have to pay) categories (pre set or make up your own) and each day log if you have met your goal or not. Ie...

My categories are.... 1) Came under budget today 2) Spent unnecessarily today 3) Did not drink alcohol today

At the end of each day I log if I met my daily budget, spent on things I didn't need and if I drank, Then that category goes either red or green or that day depending if the result was good or bad.

If you had planned a spend day you can skip the day and it goes grey and doesn't affect your overall score.

Seems like it might work for anyone who needs to be held accountable for good or bad days.... we'll see I've only just downloaded it but thought others may be interested
