best place to buy chicken fillets ?

Where is the cheapest place or doing the best deals on chicken fillets either fresh or frozen i do not mind .

I can cook so many things with chicken fillets but i do find them expensive .I am doing so well thanks to this website at cooking & freezing meals so thanks all for your past help.

Tesco value! 1kg for about £3. They're usually huge aswell. Frozen section...

Lidl have their bags of frozen chicken breasts on offer at £1.99, usually you get about 8 or 9. They do have a bone in, but I use them for everything and find it really easy to cut the bone out if you want to dice the chicken. Don't know how long the offer is on for though. Debx

i buy fillets when on offer as then they work out such good value. i usually get sainsbury. don't know the size. but generally get 3 or 4 large fillets in a pack for £6.99 and on bogof. and it always very good quality.

other to that i buy iceland cooked breast strips for £2 a bag. can stir fry from frozen. i use for hm pies , pizzas , wraps etc. great value.

They're on special offer at Sainsbury's at the moment - I think it's two packs of about three breasts for five pounds. When this offer is on they tend to have quite a few of these in the reduced section too, so you can sometimes pick them up really cheaply.

Be aware that when not on offer many chicken fillet packs are half the price, good marketing tool as usual BOGOFing something by doubling the price or near enough. Supermarkets do it a lot, when you work out the price per kilo you just know they were never the original price my farm shop I think it's around £6.00 -£7.00 a kilo depending what supply is like, tesco HL fresh £8.49/kg, HL frozen £3.97/kg (yes some difference between fresh and frozen!), tesco value frozen £2.86/kg, I don't know what the Sainsburys ones work out to but I know a recent Somerfield offer would have mean't the 'normal' price would have been around £13 a kilo! Don't be sucked in by good marketing. Always go off the price per kilo.

Depends what quality you are happy with aswell, free range and organic you're looking at £10.49 a kilo for free range Tesco ones, Willow Farm £9.49/kg.

**EDITED** Just found Sainsburys ones online, god that site took ages, the 2 packs for £5 (going off the best priced fillets) if you buy 2 works out £6.66 per kilo, basics stirfry is £6.63/kg the £6.99 ones work out at £11.52/kg! I can't find any BOGOF offers but if they were on the £6.99 ones you're still paying almost £6 per kilo. States Sainsbury's chicken is all UK sourced.

Iceland do 2 500g packs of fresh chicken breasts for a fiver. I usually buy these and have never had issues with the quality. The meat comes from the EEC somewhere.

Can you defrost the shop bought frozen fillets before you use them or do you have to cook from frozen? I know that sounds silly doesnt it - but for some reason ive always thought you needed to cook them from frozen. As im writing that it sounds even more silly! lol

I always buy fresh and freeze them... (usually sainsburys £6.99 ones) which seems silly if i can buy frozen and save up to £3 a kilo!
