Incorrect date on default from Moorgate loan servicing

I had a personal load with the HSBC which defaulted in May 2011 when I entered into a DMP with stepchange.
HSBC subsequently passed the debt to Moorgate loan servicing, who now have a default registered on my credit file. Unfortunately the default is dated May 2013, a year after the original date that I defaulted on the agreement.
This mean my credit file is in essence a year behind.
Can I ask moorgate to change the date?

Yes you can.
Write to them and point out that the date is incorrect and unfair and that you require them to correct the date.
You will probably find they will reply and correct it fairly easily, if not then you may need to progress to a formal complaint.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
I contacted them and they said that because the HSBC did not issue a final notice until a year after my first late payment, the date is correct.
Can anyone offer any guidance on what I should do?

Ask them to provide written proof of the documentation they received to register the default. When they don't, complain to the FCA and the ombudsman.
Then burn down their offices.I can't add up.0
