Error with DD's meant no interest on Lloyds acc. Worth a phone call?

I expect this is just one of those 'tough' situations but thought I'd run it by you all here just in case.

I have the usual Tesco DD's set up in order to satisfy the criteria for several banks.

I changed the date of the DD's just when the last 'we will be doing routine maintenance' period was at Tesco. The site was very glitchy and I kept getting a 'sorry we can't do *whatever* please try again later' message.

Anyway I changed all the DD's to go out on a certain date which was 2 days later than the original date, and I thought that was it. I also changed all OH's and my son's. (After they had logged in themselves of course :))

I logged into my Lloyds account today to see no interest had been paid. I immediately checked Tesco and all the DD's were set to come out in December.

I checked OH's and son's and they were the same.

Now I am as sure as I can be that even if I was having a 'senior moment', I would not have selected December as the DD payment date. Especially at the same time on all 7 accounts. I only changed the day to 2 days later, not the month. I've been juggling money and accounts for years in order to get the most benefit, I am far from new to dealing with this kind of thing and I'm pretty anal about dotting the i's and crossing the t's so I'm finding it hard to accept this was down to me. I'm positive that the glitchy site has somehow caused the dates to default to December but clearly I have no way of proving how it happened either way.

Obviously I have now changed all the dates again so at least the DD's will be taken in November and I've logged in a couple of times since changing just to check the dates are still ok.

Question is, has anyone ever had any joy with this kind of situation where DD's have got messed up but the bank has shown goodwill and still paid interest?

I expect not but thought it worth asking. Shy bairns get nowt as my Mum would say.

The error is not with Lloyds - they have no control over when direct debits are paid - all they have on their computer system is a mandate to accept payments.

Therefore, it's not really appropriate to seek a goodwill payment from Lloyds.

It's the Tesco system that controls when the DD's are paid. Therefore, the most appropriate thing would be to advise Tesco of the amount of interest you have lost, ask them to look into their systems to see if a glitch changed the month when the DD was due to be originated, and if there was a glitch, suggest they refund the interest you have lost as a result of this

I have two dd set up with my Lloyds Club account and every month without fail the dd's are taken. However one particular month one of them was not taken and it was not Lloyds Bank fault but the company
    claiming the dd.

Because of this issue I did not get my interest for that month. I phoned Lloyds regular number and the advisor was very unhelpful and basically said its not our problem.

Not to be put off I sent a very polite email to their complaints dept explaining the situation. Within a few hours had a call from them and
they agreed to give me the interest for that month plus £40 for the inconvenience.

My advice is speak to the complaints dept who can make things happen but be nice.

I also complained to the company who failed to take the dd to make sure it did not happen again and they also gave me a goodwill payment of £30 for the inconvenience.

Thank you Mable. Given your post I think it's worth an email, however I am aware it's a long shot.

    Btw, I'm always nice. ;)
