House prices in Scotland

Can anyone tell me please what is happening to house prices in Scotland? My fiance is about to sell a house about 10 miles outside Edinburgh - takes only 9 minutes into the centre of the city.

That's like asking how long is a piece of string! Our estate agents says Edinburgh prices are still rising, but much slower. He estimates that they will go up another 5% tops. Volume sales have risen though. We're selling and trying to buy and the better properties are still selling fast. We've been on the market three days and already have one note of interest without the person having seen the place yet.

We are in a small village in Aberdeenshire where I would have expected the market to be very slow. I put my house up for sale at the start of March, had a (very good) offer in within 5 days. The sale price was 35% above what we paid 18 months earlier.

and here's me, quite happy today to accept an offer of 20% above asking price, for my house that has only been on the market for two weeks ...maybe I should've held off just that wee bit longer LOL!

Wow, reminds me of the London market two years ago.

You'll soon recover from your property mania, waking up with a really bad hangover.

Then the whole country will have realised that this obsession with bricks and mortar is decidedly unhealthy and go get a life, like on the continent.

The Edinburgh property market is mental. And for some reason doesn't appear to be following the rest of the UK where sobriety is the watchword.

Your fiance selling now is a pretty good idea, I'd say.
If it was easy, everyone would do it!

Has he spent some time on either Registers of Scotland or My House Price to see what prices are being achieved?

Is he going with an agent who's got a history for finding buyers for his type of dwelling?
