Boiler Help

Hi all, this is kind of an awkward one but like I need help using the boiler - I know. I know.

So basically I have the following

i.imgur.com/i6h0RUx.jpg- Thermostat

i.imgur.com/4PBr4w2.jpg - Boiler

On the boiler if I turn the second dial to the right it just heats up the radiators based on how far I have turned it - what I want is to be able to use the thermostats in built programs to fire the boiler for things like in the mornings e.t.c but the instructions just don't really help

Thanks!

The display on your Danfoss programable thermostat shows that it is calling for heat (flame top right) and that you have manually overridden the programmed events (triangle beneath flame symbol) to a temperature setting of 28 degrees.

If you press the up arrow, down arrow, + and - buttons all together it will reinstate the preset programs, which you can then change to suit your requirements.

Read the user set up instructions from page 10 onwards here where it is all explained in simple steps.

    Hi

The problem is that the thermostat on either the programs or the manual override never fires the boiler, the boiler only heats dependent on how far to the right I turn the dial?

    Thanks

You should not be touching the dials on the boiler, leave them set as shown in your picture. They simply set the max temp for hot water and heating.

The programmable thermostat controls your heating. Reset it to default settings and then if the boiler does not fire when the stat is calling for heat (flame symbol top right) then you need a competent person to investigate.

Hi, sorry to re-bump this but I have done a little more investigating.

I see what you're saying in terms of the dials on the boiler the problem is that dependant on how far I turn that dial is how hot the heat goes.

For example if I place the dial on the snowflake the boiler is on for all of 10 seconds presumably just to heat the pipes - if I turn it right the way to the right then the boiler stays on for longer and the room becomes very hot.

The Thermostat seems to have no control over how hot the radiators go - just the boiler itself - moreover say for example I leave the dial turned to the right as instructed the boiler still heats the flat to a very cosy temperature even if the thermostat is reading 5 for its temperature

Have you lived in the flat long? Is this the first time you needed to set these things up? Is it a new-build flat?

Reason for my silly questions is that in 2012 my daughter experienced similar problem to you, i.e. the electronic timer/thermostat device was calling for heat but the boiler was not reacting, so she had to set the boiler to manual, and use the thermostatic valves on the radiators to control things.

Problem was traced to the installers leaving a bypass wire behind the boiler such that the boiler operated independently of the controller! Initially a plumber/central heating guy came and looked at it, but then they had to send an electrician.

    Just a thought.

Many thanks for your reply! We lived here for about six months (came here in June so never had any need to look at it during the summer) - when it got a little bit cold we set the programmes and it didn't work so we just did it manually from then on as it was only really cold in the evenings. Now its dropped right down so yes this is the first time that we have properly looked into it.

That's what we have to do now! We have the radstat's set on the radiators and have to manually fire the boiler - I don't suppose you can remember the name of the boiler she had and if its something we can do?

My daughter moved in her flat in June 2012, but it was only in the November that she focused on getting the heating programmed properly.

The boiler controls looked like yours, but she had a different sort of electronic controller.

The fix was not one which householder could do themselves. It needed an electrician from the builders who had built the flat. I went there to meet him because my daughter was at work. He had to rummage about underneath and at the back, and eventually came out with a piece of wire not more than 2 inches long. He said the people who installed the boilers bypassed the control wire from the controller so that they could test the functionality of the boiler itself, and then forget to reconnect it. Eventually the poor occupier can't get things to work.

If you have a landlord or a managing agent or even the people you bought the flat from (if you bought it new from a developer) you need to get them on the case. Probably they will insist on sending a central heating engineer first time round, so as to see the problem for himself, and then he will have to call for the electrician.
