applying for argos card after opening littlewoods credit acct

I inadvertently opened a Littlewoods credit account yesterday, and immediately phoned this morning to request its closure.

how long should I leave it before applying for an Argos credit card? I was offered £1k credit with Littlewoods and am really worried to get turned down for the credit card, even though I requested immediate Littlewoods closure. The card will be to buy an oven, as ours has broken :-( and we have no spare money as mid house purchase.

To be totally honest, there is no guarantee that you will get the Argos Credit Card as it's issued by Vanquis.

The Argos Store Card is issued by a different part but this will require a better credit rating than a Catalogue.

Despite closing the account, the Credit Search for the Catalogue will be visable to anyone who runs a Credit Check, it won't say which company checked you, but will say Home Shopping/Mail Order account, which may count against you.

It won't reflect on your credit report for at least a month you closed the account. I wouldn't of closed the Catalogue yet just in case... Good luck, I hope it works out, but the requirements for the Credit Card and Catalogue are a long way apart.

your been brave if mid house purchase, if I was you I would STOP now
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • So potentially best to leave it for a month, you think? I'm not really worried about my credit rating being inadequate, more about one making the second look dangerously spendy :-)

we have the mortgage offer, does it matter if we apply for something now? I really don't want to but we need an oven and all our spare money each month atm has to go towards stamp duty etc.

I would be very careful in applying for anything else, if you have had a Mortgage application and a Catalogue and now a Credit Card (I would stop) 3 in such a short space of time can make lenders feel you are desperate and at very worst, too many can look like ID fraud.

I would space applications out, I would wait at least a month, remember, even with a Mortgage offer, they may carry out a further credit check, if they see a number of applications they could (don't think they will) but could remove the offer.

    So please be careful :)

You can ring Littlewoods up and ask them to re-open, I shouldn't think they will need to re-run a credit check, as it's a credit check that's done, it could be a safer bet???

Lots of lenders do a final check about a week before the loan goes through. I certainly wouldn't be applying for credit until everything was signed and sealed.

I think the poster who says it won't show for a month is wrong. You've no way of knowing when info might be sent to agencies. It could be the day after the opening of an account.

Just going on previous experience, it takes a few days to set up in house before it goes live to Credit Reference agencies, but I totally agree with what you are saying, I would be applying for zilch now, risk nothing, that last credit check and other checks they carry out can throw up anything and sometimes it feels they are looking for something to question. The real advice, wait until you are in your new home for a cooker.
  • Ok thanks! Appreciate the advice! And I don't want to reopen the Littlewoods acct as I didn't want it in the first place :)

Littlewoods gave you 1K credit straight off? I started with £750. I didn't know people were offered different amounts.
