''All of the UmBrands products stick to any smooth surface – plastic, glass, tiles, wood or metal – and they leave no residue or marks on the surface they have been stuck to…and they can be peeled off and used again and again - reusable after just a simple wash''

I placed mine on a very smooth plastered and painted wall.

Hi Sarah - I have had the same problem!

I received no reply from the UK seller (who also sent out a hand written order form with my order) and only got a reply from the .com seller after posting on their Facebook page.

The product is certainly not suitable for the vast majority of real life applications. My hook ums didn't hold any weight before falling off the walls and this stick um pictured destroyed the paint work! The only place they are good for is the bin.

Even on their Facebook page they clearly show the stick um on painted walls: http://puu.sh/gI6HZ.png I would like to see the 'after' photo once they try removing them!

Just my take on this, it sounds like the hooks didn't fail but the paintwork / plaster did?

This, If the hooks had fallen off the paint/plaster would still be on the wall. Getting a refund is a result.

Ok, so I will tell my landlord that it was his bad?

    From the Umbrands.co.uk website:
Stick-Ums have nano-suction technology on both sides – which means that you can not only stick StickUMs to any smooth surface – but you can stick anything ‘to’ them – up to a lb in weight. Perfect for holding your mobile phone, in the car or around the house!

That photo looks like a freshly plastered wall on an old property that has only had one coat of paint, and near the edges of a window, often a naturally damper place.

I'm not 100% sure how new the plaster is, but you're right on the other two.

Mine didn't take the plaster off fyi, only the paint.

I really don't see how I am to blame for this, the responses in this thread are quite surprising though!

That's an absolute claim, pretty stupid to make, but rather exposes them to small claims action. Take good photos of the wall surface surrounding the missing chunk to show the judge that a reasonable person would describe it as smooth, state the steps you undertook when following instructions, and I'd say you've got a claim.

I'd also day Um are idiots for making absolute claims for their product, as it'll lead to cases where the real world catches up with the hyperbole.
