Looking at the description of the account I'm thinking you can't do this so maybe a combination of this AA card for our shopping etc and a simple bank account for the monthly automated bills could be the answer.

No idea, sorry, we keep our rent and bills money separate in a bank account and just use the AA card for food etc (so we don't eat or shop away the rent money!).
  • I think we'll do the same thanks very much!

    I sorted this by

I pay the bills and he pays me a fixed 50% of those every month.

We have a credit card (in my name) and he has a 2nd card - all joint spend goes on that - like food out and holidays. Then he pays me 50% of that each month end when bill comes in.

Me and DP don't have a joint account, we both have our seperate accts and worked out a fair way of splitting the bills. He pays the mortgage, CT, his car ins and any car bills (MOT etc) out of his wages and then anything left is his to do what he likes with it.

I pay all the household bills, my own car ins etc out of my bank. Anything left after those outgoings is my surplus for the month.

No need for either of us to transfer money anywhere. We both trust each other to pay out what needs to go out and it's worked perfectly. If one of us gets stuck we will always help each other out etc.

I don't know what it's called so I'll describe it as best I can.In Asda (maybe others do it)they have a card for students that can be "loaded" by parents and spent by the absent student, would this work if you both put the same amount on at the start of each week or month, then both spend from that.I know it limits it you to that particular shop though.

Cash won't work for us I'm afraid but thank you for the suggestion :)

Any reason (such as shopping by internet)? We used to manage just fine with cash in the past, back in the days when people received their wages in cash at the end of each week.
