What Label Writer do you use/ Or are Printers better

Hi Guys,

Yesterday our home printer died and we need to get a new one, we mostly use it for printing labels for ebay and using the paypal/royal mail postage.

Who uses a lable writer?

Or is it better to get a new printer and if so which one?

  • I've got a Zebra 4x6 label printer. If it were to break though, I wouldn't bother buying another.

A laser printer (a bit like this) and some A4 sheets of labels would probably be what I'd use.

Are any of the thermal printers wi-fi?

My printer is pretty cheap to run, I get compatible cartridges that are peanuts so not overly worth adding to it. Although a small back up printer might be useful.

  • Label printers are on offer in Costco, at least Costco in MK.

If you're going to do a lot of printing it is worth checking out the cost of consumables.

I use an HP LaserJet 5 that I've had for donkey's years because I can get a compatible toner for £10 that does approx 6,800 pages or 0.15p a sheet. The printer Obviously the best used as an example will cost around £14 for a compatible toner and does around 1,600 pages or 0.875p a sheet (it has a low capacity, 700 page toner out of the box)

Obviously the OEM toner cartridges cost a lot more and if you only print a small amount then the cost is not such a factor. But a laser can definitely save you money - A high capacity black ink cartridge for my Inkjet only does about 400 pages but costs £13 - 3.25p a page:eek:
Come on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.
  • Label printer for labels, laser for invoices/receipts
