Not on Electoral Roll until 2015

I've recently sold my house & (as I was waiting for an offer to be considered on another property), moved into a rented house. I changed my address on the electoral role as soon as I moved into the rented house but I've now been told by my new council that it will be Feb 2015 before I am added to the electoral role.

As a result (apparently) of not being on the electoral role, my credit score is now 'Very Poor' and from what I've been told is likely to stay that way until next spring. I've just had a mortgage credit check failed despite requesting far less than I previously had an agreement for in principal. Everything else on the credit file looks as I'd expect, no obvious issues apart from the 'not on electoral role' issue.

Is this as serious a problem as I think it is (especially as I'm wanting to apply for a mortgage now) and are there any actions I could be taking to improve this situation ? The lender isn't too forthcoming with details and I'm not sure I want them to keep running credit checks until everything looks sensible do I ?

That's why you are asked for previous addresses so you can be checked/verified on previous property

    Hi Guidonthebee,

Local authorities are currently in the process of collating the annual canvas, this will be published in December, due to the amount of information involved this takes a few weeks to update, but you should show on your Experian report by 1st Jan 2015.

In the meantime, you can use the confirmation from your local authority to confirm to lenders that you are registered. Once you have your credit report you can also add a notice of correction to explain that you are now registered on the electoral roll.

You can find out more about adding a notice of correction here, you might also wish to add a notice of corrections to your report with Equifax and Call Credit as well.

    Kind Regards
    Neil
