Windows 7 Boot Help!

Hi All
When I restarted my laptop yesterday it booted into the 'Windows Boot Manager’ screen, which says to choose an operating system to start, or press TAB to select a tool.
The OS listed are ‘Microsoft Windows 7’ & ‘Windows 7 Home Premium (recovered)’ and the Tools listed are ‘Windows Memory Diagnostic’.
If I go for ‘Windows 7 Home Premium (recovered)’ it starts up fine, but then if I restart I get the above again.
If I go for ‘Microsoft Windows 7’ or ‘Windows Memory Diagnostic’ it goes onto another window that says Windows failed to start etc. then tells me to insert my installation disk and repair.
When I boot using the disk it goes into the ‘System Recovery Options’ and it lists:
Operating System Partition Size Location
Microsoft Windows 7 0 MB (Unknow) Lo…
Windows 7 Home Premium… 231502 MB (C:) OS_Install
If I try and repair the first OS it says it cannot do this and to send to Microsoft.
If I try the second it says it has repaired but then when I restart it I get the same ‘Windows Boot Manager’ screen again.
Can anyone please help with this issue or advise as to where I might get help please?
Thanks for reading.

To fix it, you should back up your important data to an external source(perhaps an external hard drive)and to run a clean install or Factory Restore of the OS.

Thank you (and for your PM). Really want to avoid a clean install if I can help it, it's not the data but all the third party programs I have, the downloading of them, updating them etc etc, took me forever last time!

Do you think this is the only way to do it?

Do you have any idea how this could have happened?

I had this recently when I added an old SATA drive which had a copy of Win7 on it. In doing so, I managed to disconnect my SSD containing the valid Win7 boot installation. The system freaked out and didn't know how to boot so decided to create a recovery version for me.

I 'fixed' it by going into the BIOS and reconfirming the boot sequence. I am now stuck with the partition but it is no longer a problem on loading, and the boot manager screen doesn't appear when booting.

Although your problem is slightly different in that you appear to have a corrupted install, I would suggest going to the MS knowledge base articles and forums and trying the steps listed there.
