Hi everyone. I'm still very new to the forum and just getting the hang of navigating it, etc. I seem to be mainly looking around on the OS threads but first came to the forum looking for info / advice on budgeting for our wedding. We got engaged 3 weeks ago and the idea of the cost is already making me feel uncomfortable. While neither of us are in debt we don't have much savings and no credit cards or loans though I have already tightened up the household budget and have a predicted it will take us two years to save up our goal amount. I'm on a temporary contract at the moment though so feel it is difficult to plan too much with the wall of fog that is March 2015. I was brought up by my very money savvy mother though who raised two children and kept up with a mortgage just on a nurses bursary; my dad was the stay at home parent.
Anyway on to today I am just finishing recovering from a nasty head cold in my sinuses so am off work today. Hoping to be able to get back tomorrow. I hate being on sick leave as I feel like time's a wasting but I need to remind myself in order to get better more efficiently I need to rest.
Dumpling - I'm pretty sure that GP's are now able to provide gym membership on prescription which may be useful as well as seeing the diabetes nurse. Having some proper instruction may help with motivation as well as ensuring you are doing the correct exercise. GP's a really busy these days and sometimes need a little prompt to remind them that we are not medical models, we are people, and therefore might not want surgery / medication. If I were in your situation I would book a double appointment with my GP and discuss what the options are. Aside from it being about you and your well-being, which should be at the core of any treatment, it also makes more financial sense for the surgery to provide you with this preventative support now instead of treating anything more serious possible down the line. I really hope you are able to get this sorted out in the way you wish! All the best.Vintage loving, allotment holding, low waste living. Indi = DH. Maisie Bones = fur baby

Morning all,
Thanks so much for the good wishes re little dog, its been a bit of a horrible weekend, she was in the vets on a drip all day sat, we collected her sat evening, she seemed comfortable and had some chicken and water, sunday we woke up to find her very ill her poor eyes and ears had gone yellow, we rushed her back to the vet who took her in and said that she would phone us in a couple of hours once she had a good look at her.
She phoned back and told us we were going to have to think about putting her down as it would be kinder, but she just wanted to scan her liver to see what was going on with it, if it had a huge lump then we would know we were doing the right thing.
We chatted as a family and decided that we did not want her to suffer and this would be the kindest thing. The vet then phoned and told us that her liver was clear and did we want to try her on some different meds for 24 hours to see of it helped her, I had a long chat with the vet and asked her what she would do if it was her dog (as I did not want little dog suffering) and the vet said she would try it, so we did I have just phoned and spoken to the receptionist who told me she had had a comfortable night and I am just waiting for the vet to call me back.
DD OH and I were all so upset really sobbing Little dog is part of this family and we would hate to lose her.
Anyway sorry for going on, I thought you might like to know xx0 -

Morning all,
dumpling, the men in my house don't seem to see birthdays as important as I do. The girls always remember birthdays but the men need reminding on the day of a birthday. Hubby forgot his own this year. :rotfl:
Busy weekend for us. 'Youngests' car was taken in for its MOT on Saturday. Hubby should hear today if it has passed or failed.
Talking about 'Youngest', he's not in my good books. He went out Friday night and got absolutely hammered. He couldn't eat anything till last night and that was a bowl of cereal. Sorry, no sympathy. Think we are going to have to get tough with him because he is in effect drinking his driving lesson money (his choice I suppose) and of course he is only paying minimal board (don't see why his Dad should still be paying his phone contract whilst he chooses to fritter his money away).
Hubby spent Sunday doing bits and pieces in the house that had had needed doing. The house alarm has been showing a fault for weeks so that was first on his list. Number 2 was taking down the old electricity cables between our house and our neighbours house. The wires aren't live now as we now have underground cables but the electricity board didn't take the overhead cables down so being an electrician, hubby did it. Our neighbour had asked him to do that months ago.
The lawns have had their final cut of the year, my rotary line has been put to bed. Junk out of the greenhouse has been put away in the shed till next summer. The green waste bin has been put away for the winter since the council doesn't collect from November to April. The gardens are ready for winter now.
Ive got hubby to put up a few shelves in cupboards to maximinse space. I'm running out of room what with the baby stuff we need for our Grandson and hubby keeps dragging stuff in out of the shed that he says he doesn't want to leave in the shed over winter (electrical testing stuff for work). All this stuff has go go somewhere and I like to keep things out of view.
Usual jobs for Monday. Vacuuming throughout. Dusting, bathroom blah blah blah....

I'm just popping back on to say thank you very much to peony40, vintagelady and candlelight for all your helpful advice and support. I really appreciate this little community and each person in it
.
Redruby, I read your post with my heart in my mouth. I don't know if you can remember but we lost our beautiful collie Sam in the summer and he had very similar symptoms as your little dog. I am praying my socks off that your dog comes through this. I am still heartbroken over the loss of ours. Take care xxx0 -
redruby, so sad to hear that Little dog is so ill. I am sure whatever you and the vet decide will be the best option.
Much love to you, your family and of course Little dog. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Good Morning everyone, dreary dull and wet here this morning after a wet and thundery night. Docky did disturb in the noise of the thunderstorm but didn't panic and didn't try to dig his way out or get himself into a stressed and panting mood so I think the valerian pour on is a wonderful find.
RED RUBY I'm so sad that your poor little dog is so unwell and hope that you and your vet can come to the decision that is right for a much loved pet. My heart goes out to you as I know so well how attached and fond of our animal family members we become and how hard it is to do the right thing. Sending you strength and comfort at such a difficult and upsetting time.
Nothing specific planned for today and I seem to have picked up a sore throat/throat full of fur overnight so I'm not feeling 100% either but I heal pretty quickly so I'll just have an easy couple of days and hopefully that will see it off. Take care of yourselves and have a good day, Lyn xxx.0 -
Morning all,
Firstly RedRuby - Hope your little dogs makes a full recovery ((((hugs))) to you and your family.
Elona - thinking of you.
Vintagelady - Hello
Wet is todays theme it would seem. Really annoyed at DS2 he had all last week (half term) to go and buy himself a pair of waterproof trousers to wear on his moped. He wears leggings and jogging bottoms and ends up soaked. DH offered to buy him some when they were in B&Q last week but DS said they were what dustmen wore. Does it really matter if they keep you dry?! (and what's wrong with looking like a dustman?). He had also broken his wing mirror when he came off the bike a couple of weeks ago. I bought him a new set. Where are they? In his bedroom! Grrrrrr makes me so angry and causes me to fret every time he goes out the door!
On a lighter note, I've cleaned through and done a couple of loads of washing which is distributed between the airer and the TD.
Sausages for dinner tonight. Need to go and buy them first though.
Have a good day

Happy birthday Zippychick
I hope that you have a lovely day x
Welcome Vintage lady
Ruby so sorry to hear that little dog is so poorly
Dumpling as a fellow diabetic I know where you are coming from, good luck and stay positive x
Happy birthday to your OH
Just a quickie today because I have to get ready to go to the doctor for yet another blood test at 1pm.
Then I have to put some money in the bank from the Building Society to cover the cost of DH's Christmas pressie, then I just have the outlaws to get for and I have everything that I need including food, sweeties, meat and booze :j
Very gloomy here and it looks like it will probably rain later...Murphy's law says I will end up getting soaked.
BFN xBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
