O/S Daily Monday 3 November 2014
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Morning NMLC & all who cross/follow
I'm of to work in a sec, I wonder what today will bring.
The fish have been fed, hubby has a cuppa & I've had porridge.
Free lunch at work today, the choice is veg curry or chicken curry, TBH, there so little chicken in it that they could both be vegetarian.
    Time I made a move.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.

    Morning everyone

    Where are you all??

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, not raining at the moment but very dull, overcast and dreich.

DH gone to work stupid early. DS1 gone to work too.

Dinner yesterday was egg, bacon, sausage, chips and beans. I did get the chicken out of the freezer Sat night and left it out on the side to defrost in a roasting dish but DS1 was being helpful and put it in the fridge so it didn’t defrost in time to cook for Sunday lunch – I’d prefer he did that though than it being left out and then being thrown away. Tonight we will have the chicken roasted with pots, veg, stuffing and gravy.

DH sorted his wardrobe and clothes drawers out yesterday, finished up with a couple of bin bags full of clothes that either don’t fit or need to be got rid of, so they will be taken to the recycling centre. We did have a cash for clothes hut but that is no longer trading. I need to sort mine out too, but can do that at my leisure.

Hoping this week will see the plaster being taken off my leg and hopefully being given the news that foot is now healed so I can start getting back on my feet and back to normal! Hospital appointment is on Thursday morning – fingers crossed.

Have a good Monday everyone x

    Take care x

    Keep safe and well x

HH - Enjoy your free lunch, is it used to soften you up for something?!
tru - How are you feeling?
Hugs to all, especially Molly, LW and hilstep.
Elona - How's DH getting on?

Nice day weatherwise yesterday again yesterday until about 4 and it has rained since then. At least the washing was dried outside. Still not dusted but I was busy!

Dismantled the wardrobe in my room and took it to the tip (2 trips) and took most of my clothes into DS2s room where I will be sleeping whilst I decorate my room. Went for a look at wardrobes on Saturday but didn't see anything I liked. I will move out properly this week sometime and get going, I've set a deadline of before christmas for it to be finished.

Another week of work, it goes so fast. Breaded fish and hm wedges for tea. Take care. XX

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's my hubby's birthday today so I woke up and came downstairs with him to see him before he went to work. He wanted to wait to open his presents and cards when he comes home tonight which is just as well as my DD14 hasn't even written his out yet . I get very cross as birthdays are a big deal in this house and it feels as though the girls just don't care unless it's their birthday. Anyway, she's writing it now as I type so at least he will get to open them all tonight.

Tea will be hubby's favourite of southern fried chicken, wedges and coleslaw. It's beige food but he loves it so I don't mind. I will put some salad on mine to at least pretend it's a bit healthier :D.

I've woken up full of determination to get on top of my health issues and that means firstly tackling my weight, then my diabetes and my general inactivity. They are all interlinked so it will be a three pronged attack! I don't know whether to go and see my GP or not as the last time I asked for help with my over eating they suggested surgery and I really don't want to go down that route.
I have to believe that I have the power to change for the better and today is the day I start.

I'm going to start my christmas wrapping either today or tomorrow as I need to see what I have and what I still need to get. I don't have any stocking fillers and i have to do 5 of them this year. It's getting trickier (and more expensive) the older they get so I've been reading the craft forum to get some ideas. My knitting is going well. I've nearly finished the upside down cinderella doll and then I will start on my grandson's dinosaurs.

Well, that's all my waffle for today, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to. Take care xx

    Morning all,

An earlier start for me today as going to see my parents today.

Should be home early afternoon, then I need to prepare vegetables for tonight's dinner of roast chicken.

Another no spend day is planned.

Hopefully, more inspiration will come to me so that I will have a more interesting post for you to read next time!

    Take care all.

  • Good Morning all ,very grey and grotty outside at the moment and doesn't look very promising for the rest of the day Two of the boys are back to school this morning and the youngest has a teacher traing day so my son-in-law is picking me up at around 8.30 and I'll be at their house looking after the little lad.
I think making an Oreo milkshake is on the agenda today as eldest DD brought him some special ones back from the US.then probably just cosying up on the sofa and knitting and watching t.v. as no shopping to get and I'm not walking around in the rain, far too depressing:).May have a game of cards with him or a board game instead of too much t.v.
Happy birthday to anyone celebrating and <<hugs >> if your feeling a bit down and blue.

    Take care all

  • Good morning all,

Quite dreary here this morning, but I hope it will clear.

Popping into town this morning and must visit P^^ndland, need some toiletries, black sacks etc. Will pick DD up first because she wants to get her eyebrows threaded in town, always looks painful to me

DUMPLING happy birthday to your DH. I think you should ask your GP to refer you to a dietician. When I was diagnosed with Type 2, one of the first things the doctor did was refer me to a dietician, as well as having my eyes checked, and also my feet.

I didn't actually need medication for 7 years, it was controlled by diet. It is so important to have help and advice and SUPPORT with regard to diet. We all think we know what we should and should not eat, but sometimes we don't get it right.

I need medication now, but I am sure that had something to do with the treatment I received for breast cancer, it changes things in your body.

You are entitled to all the help and advice you can get, and believe me will power is good, but we all fall by the wayside sometimes:)

By brave and strong and see your GP.

Hugs to all poorlies and ELONA only 1 week left of treatment, I am sure you will both be pleased when it is finished.

    Much love to you all

    Morning everyone.

I slept for 10 straight hours and I'm certainly not short of sleep. Last day off and I need to do another tip run. Last of the cardboard.

That's all folks! Need to crack on before the predicted rain showers start.

Hope everyone is doing well or better.

    Happy Monday(s).

    Just read Dumpling's post.

Dumpling, I think we were diagnosed type 2 diabetic around the same time? (Early August for me.). Have you seen your diabetic nurse at the surgery yet? Mine recommended me for a diabetes course which I attended last month and it was very informative. One of the subjects touched on was dietary requirements. I highly recommend you ask to attend one if you haven't been so far, it was very informal and the people who ran it were very friendly, and it was nice to hear other people's early experiences of dealing with diabetes.

I too need to lose weight and exercise so we can help motivate each other.

    Happy Birthday to your dh.

    Take care.

    Hi everyone,

I've got a slower start today - I don't need to be at work till 10, I think I'll go in earlier the rest of the week though and I'm not working on Friday. I can decide my own hours and I shall just stop if I hate working again, I'm doing it to help my successor out rather than from necessity.

I must then come home and clean the bathrooms. Kedgeree for dinner.

    Have a good day.
