Gamestation won't give me a refund

Hello Everyone
I bought a second hand Xbox 360 from Gamestation 2 days ago and when I got it home It was apparent that it wouldn't read any type of disc. I phoned up Gamestation (I can only get in there on the weekends), told them it was faulty and that I would like a refund as I was disappointed in the whole affair. They said that when I brought it back they would test it, then if it was faulty they would replace it or give me a gift card for the whole amount (£220).
They say it's not policy to give cash/card refunds even though on their warranty slip it just says 'Within 30 days of purchase, GAMESTATION will offer a replacement/repair or refund on any new or used faulty product. Also, i'm pretty sure that any faulty goods must be refunded
the way they were paid for rather than store credit, which is essentially useless if you don't want to buy from there again.

If I go into the store and demand a proper refund, what are my rights?

Thanks for any help you can give

What are the terms and conditions of business with them?
What is the law, via trading standards?

"What are you entitled to ask for?

If the goods are faulty at the time of sale, you are legally entitled to request one of the following remedies:
    1) A full refund.
This remedy is available when the goods have not been ‘accepted’."

Well I guess i've answered myself :p maybe I should log it with Trading Standards before going in there just to make sure.

This should have been checked before it was sold on to you, ask gamestation to provide proof it was checked. If not sounds like a shoddy branch

You are definatly entitled to refund, i had a similar problem with Game, who i believe now own gamestatiion

Just go in and see them with the item and receipt and tell them you want a refund. Point out the part of the receipt that says about "within 30 days" and if they still refuse, ask to speak to the manager and if no joy, mention phoning head office and trading standards.

    Simple
