Quick CC + Barclaycard question!

My credit history is limited but not bad. The only products I've had is a current account, an overdraft (that I've dipped into several times this year and which is always paid off come pay day), a mobile phone contract and a credit card.

I've not had a missed or late payment. Nor have I exceeded my credit limit. And my balance is always paid in full.

Of course, I'm looking to get a mortgage in a five years time. Am I okay to keep doing what I'm doing?

The only reason I'm asking is because I've noticed a lot of people have several credit cards on the go. Would using a 3 or 4 credit cards improve and/or add depth to my limited credit history? Or am I okay, using the one I have?

I use the same card for everyday spend, online purchases and whilst on holiday. I know you can get different cards for different purposes and I've tried researching this but it all sounds a bit confusing.

Second part of my question, I have had a Barclaycard Freedom nearly 3 months now. Does anyone know when you get the extra points? Is it right after you spend £500 or after the 3 months are up?

Thanks! :)

I'd suggest just keep doing what you're doing. A lot of us on here have multiple cards for their various benefits, but the main thing which will improve your file is having one and using it, not maxing it out, making the payments on time, etc.

As for the bonus freedom points, mine appeared shortly after hitting the target, this was about two years ago and the card was a transfer from another product, rather than a new app, but I can't imagine it'll be any different.
  • Just keep doing what you're doing. Best thing you can do is try and save up a deposit and try to not dip into your overdraft.

You should get the bonus points a few days after you hit the spending target.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

    Thanks, guys.

Will stick to the one I have. Probably easier for me to manage just the one, anyway!

As for the Freedom rewards, I've just spent £619 on my card so will probably see the points in a few days time once the pending transactions get added on. Cheers! :)
