Is a tumble dryer worth it?

I am thinking about buying a tumble dryer. I have never owned one before. My parents own one and I have lived with my parents for the last five years. I lived independently for five years and drying clothes was a bit of a pain in winter.

Do you think a tumble dryer is worthwhile? I am a single person living alone. I am particularly interested to hear from other single people living alone.

I was thinking about this one for my garage: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1378140.htm?CMPID=GS001&_$ja=cgid:12525739490|tsid:59158|cid:200294090|lid:94833385730|nw:g|crid:46623625730|rnd:1576808384315608406|dvc:c|adp:1o1|bku:1. I guess as it is a condenser it can go in a garage with no flue?

I have a washer dryer and only occaisionally use the tumble facility...i can probably count on 2 hands the number of times its been used in the past 6 years.

I think its personal choice....but i have plenty of drying space outside when the weather is good and a seperate room when weather not so good that doesnt interfere with the house...

how much did you use the tumble dryer your parents had?
Why do you belive you need one and how often do you think you will use it?
Like I said its personal choice...I think that in terms of cost to run they have become a lot more efficient

I also rent out a flat where there is little drying opportunity so for those tenants the facility to dry washing without causing issues of condensation etc is important....I am aware they make a lot of use of the washer dryer fitted!

On a side note...i have to replace the washer dryer in the flat and have been looking round online for deals...AO ,co op electrical and john lewis have all had very good prices....you may find something comparable to your link at argos there.

I don't currently have a tumble drier and really miss warm, fluffy towels. Mine definitely aren't as soft these days. On a more practical note, condensation can be a real issue when drying clothes indoors, and - I don't know about anyone else here - I sometimes find my clothes develop a slight damp smell in winter which is horrible.

We have a condenser dryer and personally I would not be without it, it is used regularly in winter and saves dampness in the house and as above the washing comes out nice and soft.
  • I certainly wouldn't be without my tumble dryer ever :-)

Would be lost without it as all our clothes go through it all year round.

This time of year it is great for warming the kitchen and lounge. Water from the container is used in the iron as it won't leave limescale.

Living alone you can probably get away with one cycle a week as they hold two-three washer loads.

I like to get my washing dried outdoors whenever I can but when that isn't possible, I use my condenser dryer. Probably for a maximum of 4 loads a week so I haven't noticed any real increase in the electricity bill. I hate having damp washing hanging around indoors.

Today I washed my brushed cotton bedding for the first time and the amount of fluff that gathered in the filter was unbelievable. It is really important to remove the fluff regularly, I believe.
  • I got my dryer two years ago and I LOVE IT! I don't know how I managed without it. I use dryer balls to keep the cost down a bit. You have to look at the labels on clothes as some say you should not tumble dry, I think that's why they shrink.

I haven't got tumble dryer. The main reason is most of my clothes can't tumble dry...
