    Nowhere accepts American Express!

    Oh of course not. Only 90% of places do.

    The heading of the thread "American Express v Santander" caught my eye simply because it names two financial providers at absolute opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of customer service.

    I agree with everything written above:
    • some places don't take AmEx, so you need a second MasterCard or Visa;
    • AmEx customer service is excellent;
    • the cashback is very generous, even before their promotions and extras.
    I've had an AmEx Platinum cashback card for about 10 years and use it for everything I possibly can.

    I wholeheartedly agree. Amex Cust service is absolutely amazing. As an example, I needed a chargeback for a stolen package. no worries Amex sorted it out.

    Sure it is not accepted everywhere but usually for me those are small shops. Petrol, Tesco, amazon all the big places where I do most of my spending.

    And plus they use their internal rating to give you a credit card if you move overseas. So if you move to US or AU you can get an Amex as long as you have had an account in UK for 3months and in good standing. Brilliant.

    Go for Amex!

    Dammit!! I seem to have managed to spend over £20,000 "nowhere" in the last 12 months.

    If I try to claim it back will I have show proof I returned all the petrol, food, furniture, tools, beer, London Underground travel, BA flights, motor insurance, and Pret a Manger butties that apparently came from "nowhere"?
