I joined FU in September and they immediately took a direct debit payment straight away. Not a problem.
I entered both gas and electricity meter readings on 31-Oct because my spreadsheet needs this. Next day I get an email saying please provide meter readings by 2-Nov. So today I entered some more meter readings. No problem.
On the 31st I rang FU; I was 18 in the queue so I stuck with it. Ten minutes later I spoke with someone. I asked if I didn't enter my readings on the 2nd would they use the ones given on the 31st. She said yes they would but if I wanted accuracy then it would be best to submit the readings on the 2nd. Ok, no problem.
The lecky had gone up by 7 kWh and the gas by 3 m3. No Problem.
Then I said that my last provider told me how much was owed when I entered my meter readings but FU didn't do this so I asked why? She said that it took three months on a new account to create a bill. Surprise!
I then said what if I had been abroad for the three months and hadn't used any energy my account would be in credit. She said that in the first three months nobody not ever her knew what was owing or what was in credit. After three months she went on the bill would be produced monthly and they would keep a bit back and return the credit to me. Different!
So then I asked what if I wanted all of the credit back. She said no problem it would be returned but it was in my best interests to leave some credit on account. No problem. My spreadsheet told me that I was £12 in credit. The point of all this, be patient but keep a check on your own usage.
