A couple of greenhouse questions...

Morning all, I bought a greenhouse earlier this year and have a couple of questions.

Firstly the easy one - what is the best way to clean it down at the end of the season? Is there anything I should be doing to make sure it is clean enough to start again next year?

Secondly, I have just had to remove my tomatoes as they had all started to go mouldy, to the point that the tomatoes were dropping on the floor. The stems and the tomatoes were mouldy. Could this be down to the fact I had too many plants in there? following from this I have scrapped the tomatoes but can I use the compost thats left to stick on flower beds, around my apple trees etc?

Cheers Everyone

    1) Just hot water and a little washing up liquid

    2) No , sounds light blight, did you get the leaves wet/ not enough ventilation . Water just at the base and keep the door/ vents open in warm weather.

    3) yes

yeah, the leaves were wet - it's only a 6x6 greenhouse and I ended up with about 15 tomato plants in there, so I would imagine that would have affected the ventilation. There were times I got up and the greenhouse was covered in condensation the leaves and the fruit were covered in droplets at times. And yes, I probably was a bit trigger happy with the hose / sprayer and ended up watering the leaves as well as the roots. I will keep this in mind for next year. :)

Cool about the other too - my apple trees and cherry tree will be happy :)

Too many plants but mine did the same last year with mildew going all over the place, I thought that I might be in trouble this year so I cleaned the inside with a solution of Jeyes fluid, the soil was dug and manure added and this year the plants grew just fine.

First time growing them in a greenhouse - definitely only doing half a dozen next year!

I always water my tomatoes from the base but when it gets proper hot in there and the leaves have drooped I get the pump sprayer out amd give the leaves a misting. It's not caused me any problems yet :)
