O/S Daily Sunday 2 November 2014
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now getting light, wet, windy and wild here this morning.

DH and I up enjoying first cuppas of the day.

Dinner last night was breaded chicken pieces, jacket potatoes with cheese and beans, salad and cous cous – was delicious. I remembered to get the chicken out to defrost last night, which I left in a roasting dish on the side, but I’ve got up this morning and it’s been put in the fridge, so hasn’t defrosted – so lunch is probably going to be a Sunday night dinner! We’ll probably have egg and bacon sandwiches this morning – DS1 has become a pro at these. The roast (when we get it!) will be served with roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, green beans, peas, Yorkshires and gravy, I need to make an apple crumble too, as dad gave us some apples from a huge load they had been given.

Had a nice day yesterday, although DS1 wasn’t all that impressed with having to buy his own clothes, but once he’d found some jeans to fit and a couple of tops he seemed happier, then went on to buy some undies and a new jumper – so he’s sorted for the moment. He made us laugh as he said this weekend he’d spent nearly all his week’s wages, as 1st of the month is when he pays me his board, then had bought his own clothes and put some petrol in his bike. But he then did go on to say, but I don’t have to pay out that much every week, so I think the realities of real life in the wide world are now beginning to sink in! Hubby found a lovely jumper that he bought, we managed also find DS2 a jumper, undies and a lovely coat that had been reduced by loads, although I’d never spend the original price for that type of coat, I had some new undies from Marks and also went into the shop that sells loads of nice bath and beauty products that are natural and not tested on animals, they had loads of offers on, and I managed to get 4 big pump bottles of shower gel, they will last forever, and a body butter, so everyone had something and although we did spend some money we didn’t go mad, a while back I’d just buy anything anyone wanted, but not anymore. We do all have plenty of everything in reality so replacements are just where something is worn out or grown out of. I’m so pleased that we had booked a wheelchair as there was no way I could have managed there without, it’s not massive but there’s a lot of walking it meant that we could go everywhere we wanted and it definitely was worthwhile going. I’m hoping that I can return there on my own once I’m fully mobile again as I could do a good amount of Xmas shopping there. Parking is either £1 for up to 2 hours or £2 all day – so much cheaper than most places around here.

Today will just be a chilled day I think, DH will need to go and collect his work van ready for tomorrow later but other than that a relaxed day.

    Have peaceful Sundays everyone x

    Take care x

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning All

Wet and windy here. Yesterday was quite nice, very blowy but that was good for getting 3 loads of washing dry and giving the house a good airing. I also managed to wash the car (not something I do very often!) and cut the grass. The grass was quite wet but my little free mower managed (I got it from freegle), had to give it a few rests but we got there in the end! So glad I did it as that should be it now for the winter and it started to pour yesterday about 5pm.

Made curry for tea last night which was really good but the house stinks! I have lit candles this morning to try to get rid of the smell. Unfortunately my jacket was in the kitchen so that has gone in the machine to freshen it up.

Making spag bol later which could be Sunday lunch, not sure yet. Still haven't dusted so may even do that. I did clean the upstairs bathroom and put new plants in the hanging baskets so yesterday was quite good.

tru - Are you feeling better now? Would love to see the snake when it's finished.
    JackieO - Enjoy catching up.
Hugs to anyone feeling a bit down or poorly. Take care. XX
  • Good Morning everyone wet and yukky here too and set in for the day according to the weather forecast. I've got a pile of ironing to do and the lurcha is not keen on morning walkies (nor is his Dadi!) so they will wait for a lull if there is one.

The valerian based pour on that DD1 found for Docky seems to be very effective, we had fireworks last night and he was fine just came into the study under the desk and we had the music on too but better than that we had heavy rain in the night which usually upsets him and he slept through it. I have hopes this fireworks season that he might not be quite as frantic as he normally gets. It's been much quieter here this year with only a couple of long periods of noise with the odd very loud bang late at night. I think there will be more this week and probably next weekend but we don't seem to have any organised displays either, certainly I've not seen posters which they usually put up. Perhaps people are finally beginning to see the outlay as money wasted?

Have yourselves a nice day everyone, I'm off to put my brisket into the slow cooker for supper tonight, Lyn xxx.
  • Morning all
Lazy start for me today, back to work tomorrow, I've got nothing done that I wanted to do, no sewing & very little crochet, but did manage most of the housework that needed doing.
Fish fed, hubby & I have a cuppa, I shall have some porridge soon hubby will no doubt have cooked breakfast when he gets up. We're having roast lamb for dinner with roasties, stuffing balls, cabbage, carrots & broccoli.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Good morning all,

Weather horrible here as well, wet and windy and a bit of the back fence came down during the night. Himself has just propped it up for now until the weather clears.

We are off to Costco later for a few bits and will pick DD up on the way. I don't know whether she will last the distance on one crutch, but she wants to go.

I cooked bacon and sausage for breakfast, which is very unusual, but we really enjoyed it.

LILY how are you honey, are you feeling any better?

Hugs to all poorlies human and pets.

Have a good day everyone if you can

Good morning everyone - rain lashed down overnight and now the sun is out and bright over the sea. Hope it lasts.

Had my haircut yesterday morning, in and out in ten minutes. I go with my hair damp and never ever have it blow-dried so leave with it damp too. My hair is a wash and go type and falls into place easily.

Had a load of logs given to me yesterday and a large amount of diced venison from the estate. That'll be turned into a casserole this winter at some point. There are so many deer around here and some are not as scared of humans as others.

Enjoyed the start of the new book which kept me busy until the logs arrived! Managed a NSD yesterday and will have another one today.

Just had bacon and eggs for brekkie, haven't had that for ages and thoroughly enjoyed them. Lunch is still pea and ham soup.

Hope everyone has a good day.

    Happy Sunday.
  • Good morning everyone

Not been here for a few days and everything is a bit of a mess at the moment. Car has been in the garage since Thursday and has tons of stuff wrong with it. It is still under warranty (just) but the warranty company are insisting on sending out their own engineer to check it before allowing the work. Even without the warranty work, there is still over £300 to pay. If they don't grant the warranty work, I have no idea how much the bill will come to. Please keep everything crossed for us.

DH is back in work tomorrow and is stressed about it already. At least GDD is here to cheer us up. About to go and help her with some homework.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a lovely day

  • Morning all,

Thinking of all the poorly people today :)

Went to the local council firework display last night. It didn't seem as good as previous years, probably less money spent on it.
Ended up having stir fry for dinner just after nine. I was starving by then I can tell you!
DS2 and his GF went to a Halloween party and are still in bed.

DH is busy working out prices for some quotes he has to do. Don't expect we will be up to much today, bit wet and miserable.

I've got a couple of pork chops and a chicken breast out of the freezer and will probably do roast spuds and veg with it for tea.
