I'm not going to get into a discussion about what exactly autism is classed as. You may wish to continue that with other posters.
I think in fairness to other posters, the fact that you've revealed in 3 separate posts different health issues (#1 anxiety & depression, #2 autism, #3 diabetes) sounds 'iffy'.
I think you have made the right decision not to spend £2K on gym equipment & installation. I am confused why you've said you have bought this stuff in one thread but in another you say you have just priced it up.
I just can't see anyone agreeing with you that spending that amount of money is not deprivation of capital.
As for owing your parents money, don't you think anyone in a similar situation as you are could say the same thing, whether it is true or not.
You need to realise that when applying to retain your benefits you won't be dealing with people who will take your word for everything.
They are not stupid people and will have heard most if not all of what you tell them many times before.
And again - in fairness to other posters - you did come on here asking for suggestions to spend money from a lump sum you have received to enable you to continue receiving benefits.
That's maybe why you are getting some of the replies you've had.0 -
I was just challenging the poster stating that it is not a mental disability?
I have an advocate, I shouldn't respond to ignorant comments I know, that's exactly what they want. If some believe that I have invented everything I have said then that is there opinion.0 -
It is unfortunate if detailing conditions sounds 'iffy' not sure why I would want to make it up, believe me I wish I didn't have to contend with the conditions on a daily basis.
I could scan and post up my medical reports? (mainly from addenbrokkes hospital, after being born after 26 weeks I spent the first 5 months of my life there on a incubator (or am I making that up?) or you can see my letter from my MRI scan that showed up scarring on the right side of my brain? does that sound an iffy made up story? I can take pictures of my current prescriptions? (metformin for diabetes, venlafaxine 150mg per day for anxiety, depression that a psychiatrist prescribed?I have his letter laying out the care plan until I go back in 3 months) maybe that still wouldn't be enough to convince some people.0 -

A few comments have been disappointing, but not surprising due to some peoples ignorance surrounding mental disabilities.
According to the NHS website Autism itself is not classed as a mental illness and I quote
Autism is a serious and lifelong developmental disability. On its own, autism is not a learning disability or a mental health problem.
However, some people with autism have an accompanying learning disability, learning difficulty or mental health problem
If you do however have a learning difficulty or mental health problem along with your Autism one wonders how you managed to hold down a paid job long in enough to get a large redundancy payment.
So you have type 2 diabetes? so does my 65 year old Husband and that does not stop him working in fact he volunteers 5 days a week both in a Charity shop and a museum that gives him plenty of exercise.
When my husband got his pension in April along with a lump sum from an annuity I was on JSA my JSA was stopped (after paying in for 43 years) because his lump sum took our income above the benefit limit.
It certainly did not occur to us to try and spend all his lump sum to get income based benefits so sorry I have no sympathy or respect for other people who try and do this.
We have a combined tax and NI contribution of nearly 90 years as a couple but we know and live with the fact that we are not entitled to anything0 -

It's not the the fact that you have a number of health issues or the fact that you have detailed them that some people may find 'iffy'.
It's the fact that you didn't mention them altogether in the same post.
I personally have not accused you of making your health problems up.0 -
I feel rubbish having felt the need to divulge some of the info I have on here, only started out as one question. safe to say it does not seem worth the hassle spending money on gym equipment!
It depends how you interpret terminology I guess, all I know is it affects me mentally, so I view the condition as a mental disability, can't talk for anyone else with the condition, just my point of view. Maybe you know more than me on the effects of autism, I don't know.0 -
Honestly, Iv'e never used this forum before, I didn't have a plan to reveal any of this info, that's maybe why I didn't mention it all at once I don't even know myself to be honest.0

Whether you have (or don't have) autism or any other disability, mental, physical or any other type, is irrelevant.
The fact is that a home gym costing £2000 will not be an allowable expense.0 -
Don't feed the troll folksMetranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0

Am I making my medical history up in your opinion?0
