Old android phone into a CCTV camera.

I have recently moved into a ground floor flat, from living in a towerblock. It has a little bit of garden out front, and so I have my plants standing in that area for now until I can get down to doing the garden.

I have had two of the plants stolen and two damaged, I could only take about 10% of the plantsI had in my previous flat so don't want wnymore going walkies or being intentionally damged. This is why I was wondering if it is possible to turn the old phone into a camera to watch the garden.

I have an old Samsung GTI-5500, it can take a 16gig card so a decent amount of storage. It is not going to need to hold the images for long only to check if I see a missing or damaged plant. If I see none then the record can be wiped clean annd so free up the space.

I don't think it actually will need to record moving images, maybe just take a snap every 3-5 seconds. I don't need it to connect to anything else.

How easy would it be for thsi to be done?

Do you have another android phone or tablet, plus broadband or just a router.

Can download an app called IP webcam on bother android devices, connect to same router, then use the samsung phone as the camera and other device to view the footage, can record manually and motion detect. app is free to download from google play

The problem is most phones have awful night vision - I'm assuming its at night youre having problems. OK most phones have a flash but put it behind glass and the photo will just be a white reflection. Put the phone outside and it will get nicked.

If there is enough light for a phone camera to work then there are plenty of car recorders in the play store.

Voyager, Blackbox, MyCar and several others. The only issue maybe the amount of power used by the phone and the heat generated.

Try "Framelapse" on the Google Play Store.

I used the free version for the first time last week and it's brilliant. Ended up taking a 5 minute 1080p video of my trip up the M6 from Birmingham to Preston. It took a frame every second (so was sped up 30x - wish the actual journey was that fast!). File size was 800 meg for the 3 hour journey.

You can change the interval, so could get it to snap every 5 secs.

Worth checking out as it sounds like exactly the thing you need..
