Hire purchase contract void?

Hello i purchased a car under a hire purchase over two years ago i still have a couple of years left to pay when i purchased the car i was told it had a private registration plate that i would have but it wasn't on the car at the time i agreed to buy the the car signed all paperwork and forgot about it.
This week i have checked the hire purchase agreement i had entered into and the registration number on it is the private plate which is different to the standard plate i have on the car. So i was sold on the agreement a car with a private reg but never received it. I wondered does this void the contract as i have a car with a normal plate when i signed an agreement for a car with a private plate?
Any advice would be appreciated thanks in advance.

What do you mean by void? Return the car and cancel the agreement?
Or just not pay?
I think either is unlikely for a clerical error. If it had been sooner after the agreement, the first may have been an option.0 -
You bought the car, and clearly accepted it at the time, regardless of the plate on it.
Is the vehicle's VIN number also on the agreement? If so - bingo! - the goods are correctly identified.....:)0 -
Thanks for the comments at the end of the day i have signed an agreement for a car with a private plate at the time i was told this is what i would receive and i haven't received it. A private car number plate has a value in its own right so it changes the value of the entire purchase you couldn't sell a car with 888 on the number plate get them to sign an agreement then give them a car with a different plate?0

Take it back and get them to fix it. You should get what you paid for.
Whether the original agreement is compromised by the mistake would have to be tested in court, costing everyone lots of money.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -

Who will tell you that the first thing you need to do is contact the seller.0 -
From what you say, you have had the car for two years and have two more years to go.
So long as you have not missed any payments and are not in arrears, then you can return the car to the finance company and owe them nothing.
That would solve your problem."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
OP I hope you have never been late for work, otherwise you would have broken your employment contract and have to repay all your salary from the day you started with your employer

Can I ask what the private number plate was?
Also, how come it has taken you so long to realise when you must have spoken to an insurance company with the current number plate on?0 -

I'd prefer not to put any details online, i totally forgot about the private plate and only noticed and remembered when going through the details, the number plate on the car comes back as finance free as well, i just want to know the my legal position really which is why I'm contacting a solicitor.
If someone on here has genuine knowledge and understanding of the law that was what i was looking for.0
