    yes i see what you're saying. i just have more sympathy for the small independent shopkeeper than i do for a huge multinational

    The law however doesn't discriminate in such a way. You entered into a contract with SP for them to supply you with energy at x price, you haven't paid it. Whose fault the error is doesn't stop this.

    Ultimately you are liable, and you're far more likely to get an outcome that favours you (long term payment plan, goodwill gesture of money off) if you engage with SP and come to an arrangement.

    If you try switch and ignore it (not saying you would BTW), they would block the switch and keep chasing you for the money, and could ultimately trash your credit file.
  • i've switched several times over the last few years and never had any issues. but perhaps this transposing has only happened more recently somehow.

    can you not switch from SP until they have sorted it out then?

    and have they told you you'll be getting £75 compo? are they not charging you for the undercharge?

    I haven't switched due to this mess up as i want a correct bill before I do so ( to make life easier )

    I will be paying for all electricity used as I have used it and won't be eligible for code of practice as per below

    These are the terms from EO & SP.... still waiting:( for conformance

    Please find below a summary of the proposals agreed by you and Scottish Power, in full and
    final resolution of your complaint:
    Scottish Power should:
    • provide an up to date bill;
    • if applicable to apply Energy UK’s Code of Practice for Accurate Bills by removing any
    previously unbilled charges prior to twelve months from the date of the first accurate bill;
    • provide an apology in writing;
    • provide a payment plan taking into account your ability to pay; and
    • apply a credit of £75 to your account as a gesture of goodwill in recognition of the shortfalls in
    customer service experienced.
    Scottish Power should provide the remedy within 28 days from the date of this letter.

  • why aren't you eligible for the code of practice?

    OP, I see this happening a lot and I occasionally look at their bills and its quite obvious to see the transposed readings happening, eg night rate (thats units used in the dead of night )consumption five times that of the rest of the 17 hours in the high consumption period. These eco 7 meters can vary as to what is day and night and the supplier is nt in a good position to spot it. Meters readers are being phased out so its up to the householder to monitor their meters better. Maybe you should nt even have an eco 7 meter. Night storage users spot transposed reads very quickly ,because they pay more, but when its the other way round, and they get cheaper electric than they should it seems that they then fall back on to blaming the supplier.
    If you fight your corner strongly the supplier will back down, they dont want you escalating it to an Ombudsman ruling. If meter readers have been visiting your home and not being able to tell day from night it backs your claim up to make them drop the shortfall.
    I might add that I will point out undercharging at the tills also , and it does nt make a difference whether its Tescos or the local butcher.
