From Carers Allowance to ESA confusion

As mentioned in an earlier post, I have recently lost my partner and have had to make a claim for ESA.

I was informed by Carers Allowance, I would be paid for eight weeks. Unfortunately, I have not recieved a payment (Natwest always pay Monday payments on a Saturday), and whilst I sort out a sicknote for ESA very soon which should be processed, I have nothing bar a DLA payment due on Wednesday.

What can I do?

I think what's likely happened is that your claim for ESA has shut down the CA claim, as you cannot have two 'income replacement' benefits at the same time.

I am unsure in principle if - when the ESA claim comes through that you will be paid backpay of the carers premium on ESA for the time from your claim up till it's paid (and up to the 8 week limit), I think it's likely.
You need to phone ESA, and see if you can get them to hurry things along.

Hi l had the same problem last week lost my DH 2 weeks ago informed them they paid the next week as normal then stopped- l phoned on the Monday and they were very helpful they said it should have gone through as normal. Then Tuesday l received a letter which then gave a new payment date and indicated when the payments will finish. On the phone they did say when widows allowance is paid careers allowance will stop. don't worry you will get it. Currently widow allowance and the bereavement payment take up to 28 days to be sorted so they told me. My thoughts are with you- l'm finding l am become a money chaser when l should be looking after me and DD at this time so going to have a break from benefits, pensions etc for a week and then re visit when l feel a bit more up to it.

Call them on Monday to get it reinstated as quickly as possible. It may not be a massive amount of money, but obviously it's money you can ill afford to do without-even temporarily.
