Geraniums still in flower. Someone told me you can overwinter them ? How do you do this?

    I've been Money Tipped!
I pot mine up ( i'f they were in the ground) and bring them in to the house and keep them on windowsils.

They are fantastic. Usually I keep them potted through summer and just take pots in and out, but sometimes its useful to use them as ground cover.
  • I cut ours back to remove the tips for cuttings. Then keep them in a light place at no less than 10degC Keep them reasonably dry but not completely nor over wet them. For cuttings take a growing tip about 3" long, cut just below the leaf, allow to dry for about 1 hour and then pot into an open compost to root. A temp no lower than 15deg C and they should root in about 3 weeks. Leave them there until spring, take out the growing tip and repot into the next pots size up. Keep doing so until the weather is warm enough and frost free then plant outside.
I hope you get lots of cuttings. We are just about to pot up 1500 into their first pots and they will stay there until Feb when they will go into a 5" pot.
Light and warmth are most important so molly coddle them a bit, they;ll thank you for it.

You can bring them inside if you have space , a light window sill will do but not too warm.. maybe in a room thats not heated in Winter if you don't want to faff around with cuttings.. just take all the dead leaves off, keep them fairly dry but frost free and they will flower all through the Winter. I sadly don' have space in the house for them as all the rooms are heated, I tried them in the garage protected in cardboard or sacking but they didn't survive.. it was just too cold.
