Giving notice of end of tenancy query

Hi, newbie here. I wondered if someone could shed some light on something for me.
My husband and I have just gone onto a rolling tenancy contract and our agents have writte to us and said that when we want to give notice of leaving we can only do this on the signing date of our tenancy each month. We signed the initial tenancy on 26thnovber so we have read this to be that we can only give notice on the 26th of each month. Can they demand this, or is it a load of fooey and they are just trying to get another months rent from us? We are moving into our own house and if they can legally do this we could be faced with a month of rent plus a month and a half mortgage. (We have the budget for this but obviously would want to avoid if possible).
I know I will have to check my rental contract before contacting my agency but this is more of a *can* they ask/demand this or are they pulling a fast one.
Thanks in advance

It is not a question of the agent asking/demanding; that is how Statutory Periodic Tenancy works by law.0

It is not the date you serve notice that is presciptive, it is
a) how long the notice is and
b) what date the notice ends - yes, it must end on the 25th (assuming your tenancy started on the 26th - date of signing may be different and is irrelevant)
You can alsways give longer than the legal minimum.
