Estate agents who insist you see their mortgage broker

We bought our house with housenetwork and they insisted that we speak to their mortgage advisor. But offer was accepted at that stage.0

Unless the seller has given specific instructions for the conditions which have to be met before an offer is passed on.
Many EAs will say their sellers have told them not to pass on unvetted offers. In OP's case this is clearly not the case from the seller's perspective.
It should really be the seller who's making the formal complaint. I know the OP doesn't want to buy via this EA again, but I wonder whether it's actually worth burning bridges about?0 -
It's not uncommon for agents to try and convince you to see their mortgage broker.
In a large corporate company the staff will be targeted on the number of FS (financial services) appointments they book and they will also be incentivised to do so.
There's nothing wrong with this. It's no different to a waitress recommending that a Diane sauce goes really well with the fillet steak you've just ordered, or the staff in WHSmith asking if I want any half price chocolate orange every time I buy a f*****g newspaper.
However, there is a vast difference between a genuine attempt to 'upsell' and insisting that you see their broker.
They are breaking the law by not putting your offer forward and I'd be inclined to formalise a complaint.
It's agents like this that give the industry a bad name.

They do my bloomin' head in! I thought it was just me! Coz I'm a bit chubby, I thought they were offering me some of their cut price chocolate, because they thought I looked like someone who eats a lot of chocolate!
That said, whenever they DO offer 'cut price' chocolate; it's almost aways been bumped up a lot for a few weeks, and then reduced, so you're not saving that much anyway!!!
Why DO they say 'would you like some of our sale chocolate?' EVERY time you just go in for a paper, or some stamps?!' :mad: It gets very annoying. Have they got a massive backlog of chocolate or something?!Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

I have no issue with an EA offering other services, be it mortgage or conveyancing and am happy where relevant to receive quotes to see if they can save me money.
However, there is a difference between offering/promoting these services and telling the potential buyer that they have to use them for their offer to be acceptable. This disadvantages both the buyer and vendor and in my case has potentially lost the vendor a sale.0 -
Rang an estate agent up about a house on the market and the first thing they asked was would i like to see their mortgage broker and all sorts of questions about mortgage
I said any issues and i will deal directly with the vendor.0
