rewiring questions

Options
We have just bought an old house (c.1950) and I am considering getting it rewired when we get the keys. It currently has an old metal fusebox which has had the fuses replaced with circuit breakers.

Can anyone give me any advice on how long this would take? I have been told the price would be between £2-3k? It's a 3 bedroom house, timber floorboards upstairs and concrete downstairs.

Also any advise on where to position additional sockets and how many in each room?

2k plus is about norm, having wooden floor upstairs where the boards can be lifted will help.
As for sockets your probably best discussing that with your chosen electrician and how far your budget will stretch as it will no doubt involve chasing out walls etc.
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

2k to 3k sounds about right.
How long depends on size of house, size of rooms and how many sockets you need.
OH did our new house in 4 days. But ( really big but) there was no plaster on the walls and a chimney breast had to be taken out. This also included replacing garage and shed electrics ( which involved digging up the drive and half the garden and putting in the alarm and something else that i cant remember now :). )

How many sockets? Well you can't have too many. We now have 14 doubles in the kitchen, 8 in the living room and bedrooms and 6 in the study. One at bottom of stairs one at the top.
    Must add, I still don't think that's enough :)

Edited to add, 6 sockets in garage and 4 in shed. Plus err 4 PIR lights and a fan in bathroom. Possibly another couple of sockets in a cupboard downstairs and of course a electric shower.
    63 mortgage payments to go.

As many sockets as you can afford. If there is no socket, you cannot use it. If there is a socket you don't have to use it.
This has always been my philosophy in the matter of sockets.
Of course, in my case this was easy to achieve, as I was an electrician.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Not so bad as it seems and he was motivated because we could not get plastering done til electrics in place, and we can't move in til its all plastered. ( and I have bad asthma which is why we can't move in til its all done)
