Avast free anti virus- what options to install?

as seen on the weekly mailing.. various sub programs on installation list, no idea if really needed?
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

In the shields column, you'll (presumably) want the File Shield & Web Shield enabled. If you have an email client installed on your PC (Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.), the Mail Shield would be a good idea too (otherwise you don't need it).
And I'd disable everything else except for perhaps Browser Protection (although I think that sends a list of the websites you visit to Avira, which I'm a little uncomfortable with). And the Rescue Disk is useful if you want to remove viruses from another machine -- you can boot from the CD image it creates to get a "dead" PC working again.

I don't think Avast sends anything to Avira...
But yes, disable and uninstall everything but the File Shield and possibly Web and Mail Shields.
Upgraded to the lastest 2015 version yesterday (after some hesitation with adverse comments on their forum) and all seems fine.0 -
