Its not the Falls that are terrifying but the cheap, actually probably not cheap, scary attraction that appears to be advertising in the article0

Why would anyone go to Niagara Falls and then spend time in tacky places like this?0 -

In my experience, Niagara Falls (on the Canadian side, at least) was all tack. I thought that was meant to be part of the appeal!
The falls are impressive, but the setting is all dodgy waxwork museums and Ripley's Believe It Or Nots...0 -

Niagara Falls is like a downmarket Blackpool... although the DH and DD loved Nightmares.
I think the most impressive time to visit the Falls is winter. It's like Narnia. The icicles on the lampposts are horizontal, the frozen water is amazing and watching the ice floes break up is mesmerising.
A few miles away is Niagara on the Lake - lovely little town with restaurants, shops and coffee shops. Much nicer place to spend time!0 -
I took a stroll around Goat Island on the US side and found that very pleasant, but you do see the tat across on the Canadian side, and some of the hydroelectric power installations.

The central area of the town of Niagara Falls on the US side is run-down and depressing but the outskirts are ok.
Niagara Falls is a sad indication of what might have happened to places such as Yosemite if the national parks hadn't been created."Such an enormous country, you realize when you cross it" - Jack Kerouac0
