Morrisons phasing out their Saver brand
In Morrisons today looking for their saver brand of drinking chocolate but there was none on the shelf and no space for it.
When I asked an assistant she said that it had been removed from the order pad a few weeks ago and that quite a lot of the Saver brand goods are no longer available to order.
Only her opinion but she seems to think that the brand is being phased out gradually.
Shame about the hot chocolate as I liked the taste of it even compared to the expensive branded ones, now I need to find a substitute

They usually stop stocking saver/value items in the run up to xmas to make room for xmas stuff, or more expensive brands as they think people will "splash out" and buy the better brands because it's xmas.0

I said that to the employee that I spoke to but she thought it seemed different this year for some reason.0 -
Saver digestives disappeared weeks ago. They tasted good, were cheap and vegan. Shame0

yes unfortunately what the shop assistant told you is absoloutley spot on, they are indeed phasing out the savers range, but as each savers line goes, they are going to drop the price of their own brand equivalent of the product to bring it more like the savers price, I,e and this is only a example, savers digestives 400g currently 30p, morrisons digestives 400g 50p, when the savers line goes they wil reduce the morrisons variant to around 40pTake every day as it comes!!0

I'm sure you're right and then the prices will probably edge up gradually until a 50p pack is all you can get.
I've learned to be hugely cynical on these things. Which is probably why so many of us are voting with their feet and shopping at Aldi/Lidl. It's not that these shops don't put prices up, they do, but so long as they have better value I'll be shopping there.0 -
I don't want the others to do the same. There are many people that don't have a car and their nearest Aldi or Lidl is several miles away.
They rely on the supermarkets' value brand. Everyone must have seen customers with 90% of the stuff they buy are value lines. The only non value lines are things they don't have them in value lines like certain produce, spices etc
People will lose out on so much if the value lines go.0 -

But the supermarket will gain. Or at least they think they will because customers will buy the next highest priced item.
However, I'm not convinced Morrisons are phasing out value items.
For one thing they are losing customers and if they stop selling value items some customers will go to another supermarket . I doubt they would deliberately give their customers a reason to shop at another supermarket.
Secondly, Morrisons never do anything first. They are very cautious and usually wait until the other supermarkets have tried something, and found it works, before they try it. I can't see them coming up with an original idea like "Let's drop the value lines and see if we make more money" and be the first to try it.0 -

Trust me they are doing this, every year they always have a plan on a page where in January/February they come up with around 10 things they are going to do during the year, and this year as well as the loyalty card*which has just launched) one of the things was the removal over a period of time of the savers lines and the price reduction of the nearest own label equivalent, some things have gone already but others will obviously take a bit longer due too kevels of stock within the business and contracts with the suppliers to expire, which is a shame really as the one thing they have got right in the past few years is the savers range, it has been quite successful.
Although I do agree with you about it being a surprise that they are leading with this, as they are normally 10 years behind everybody else with whatever they do.Take every day as it comes!!0 -
ASDA appear to be doing the same. No value brand of biscuits except gingernuts i think.
Not just biscuits though. The value brands of lots of items seem to be missing.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
So basically because of tight budgets, people were buying the savers/basic brands.
Now the supermarkets want a better cut in the product %.:(
Do they think people will just buy the next one up?
I will not, so supermarkets, you are going to loose my custom!!:)The more I live, the more I learn.
The more I learn, the more I grow.
The more I grow, the more I see.
The more I see, the more I know.
The more I know, the more I see,
How little I know.!!0
