Lost baggage - found but delay in returning. Claim?

We landed at Birmingham last night and a few people had bags missing. The baggage handling reps were very helpful

The family ahead of us in the queu had their bags identified as still being in Lanzarote and were promised they would be delivered to their house by 11:30am the next day

Our bags have now been discovered as being at East Mid airport but the people are saying they will not be with us by Thursday or Friday next week (essentially 7 days). A lot of my wife's expensive make-up is in the luggage and she is due back at work on Monday

Can we claim any sort of compensation/insurance for "inconvenience"? My wife was gettign angry on the phone as the baggeg rep was saying "No, we would never promise bags by next day" and basically outright lying.

the airlines tend to not cover essentials if the bag is delayed on the return flight. You could try your travel insurance but they may be the same
  • Surely one solution would be to buy the bare minimum of what she needs - if its stuff that she uses day in day out she'll soon use it up.

Alternatively (and I don't know distances involved) arrange to pick up the case yourself?

Seriously though this is 1st world problems.

Really?! She has no other makeup in the house at all?!

Seriously, this Americanised culture of compensation for everything and anything is getting ridiculous!!
  • Thanks last post for completely missing the point of the post!

I KNOW it is a 1st world problem and never thought of it as anything other. Here was me thinking this forum was to allow people to ask questions of things they don't understand having never experienced it. The makeup was simply one of the many items in the case and I used it to make a point. I didn't post "my wife won;'t have her make-up for a few days, can I sue someone" :-)

the makeup comment was not relevant then...you were asking, can I claim for the inconvenience for my case being delayed on the way home. The answer is no, the airlines do not cover this and speak to your insurance although they may only cover you for essentials on the outbound journey (as the airline would)

So the makeup wasn't important so why use it at an example? If there are other more important things in there then why not use those as an example?

My comment still stands - this sense of entitlement to compensation at the drop of a hat is ridiculous!!

Sorry I wasn't on hand with tea , sympathy and tissues .......as far as I was concerned yes you were over reacting and to specifically use the example of the make up suggested that was the most important items in the case.

My sister lost her case for a month (long story) but she was glad just to have it returned - never even crossed her mind to sue.

Also name calling is the sign of losing the argument but not being adult enough to admit it
  • Doubt you would get compensation. You could try and arrange for your case to be delivered earlier - ask them if they will pay the delivery charge if you arrange for a 'same day' delivery company to collect it & deliver it to you.

That's exactly how I read it at first and forced myself not to comment for fear of being warned off by the forum moderators.

It seems I wasn't the only one.

    No?
How else can this part of your original thread possibly be interpreted?
