Hi,
Wondering if any MSE's have any advice on burglar alarms.
I'm going to work offshore next year and the wife would like one for when I'm not here.
Looking at options of bell only, remote panic button, monitored or not monitored.
Any advice on makes or companies etc. Looks like ADT should be avoided??
Thanks,
Marco

I used these for a Diy alarm, it was easy to fit.

Deffo monitored with at least 3 people to contact if activated, whether it be an alarm receiving centre calling you or a communicator with a SIM card that can text you if it activates.0

would disagree....no one is going to stick around with the imple bells alarm going off, monitored is way over kill imo...if you got tht kind of money might as well just throw up a couple cameras....
just get a simple bell alarm....all the best, hope the trip goes well!0 -

You can now buy alarm systems that will text / email / phone you if the alarm is triggered.0 -

Get a few quotes, as you need advice about the best system for your needs. As your wife will still be around, then perhaps a bell only will be ok. Would you need to pay for monitoring and people to be contacted ? It also depends on the location of the house. If the house is remote, without neighbours nearby most of the time, you should consider monitoring.
I have dealt with numerous situations for Home Insurance and alarms can be a real deterrent. One client was broken into 3 times in 6 months, then had an alarm installed and so far has not had any attempt to break in. If there is any risk where you live of break-ins, then you should invest in a properly installed alarm under a contract, where they do an annual maintenance check to make sure it is working properly.
Invest in some security lights and if necessary upgrade locks on doors/windows. If there is any large shrubbery which hides the house, clear this back a bit. Most burglars want to be able to go unseen. They won't like security lights, burglar alarm boxes which may be real. They won't like good quality locks on doors and windows, with spare keys hidden. Some people still keep spare keys near the front door on a hook or on a piece of string inside the letterbox or underneath a plant pot by the door. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -

This advice by previous post is golden, having security lights and good quality locks on doors is a must.
Remember a burglar alarm will just be a deterrent and normally because so many go off, some neighbors won't pay too much attention to them and tend to ignore them if one goes off.
Also having lights on when not in is a good thing. I invested in some of these timer switches and use these on my room lamps and they can programmed in many ways as possible also useful if your on holiday

Infinite Prime I recommend them hands down every time, fully expandable - have pet immune detectors - GSM diallers etc
I have used them a few time and are very easy to set up and are not the run of the mill garbage you can get from the diy warehouses

I used https://www.glo-bellfireandsecurity.com no long term contract installation includes police response and first years monitoring, after which its roughly £20 per month by DD to keep the police response.0
