never ever seen a bath plug chain rust, any diy store should stock it
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.
  • Any chain marked/sold for use as a bath plug chain should be non rusting - ie made from chromed brass, stainless steel or other non rusting material - it should say what material it's made from on the packaging or on the signage if it's sold loose on a roll. I always use the ballchain type bought by the length off a roll cos it's cheap.

I guess I must be very unlucky as I've got from Amazon which has started rusting and I've only had it about a year and a half.

have to say its pretty cheap from your local hardware store but atleast you'll be getting the right stuff

  • Weird - did it state what materials the chain was made of on the packaging.

If it was sold as a bath plug chain I reckon your statutory rights would apply even after a year and a half as it was not 'fit for purpose'. In the real world however I doubt you'd get your money back now without a lengthy battle :D

When you buy the new one, make sure the metal it's made of is a type that doesn't rust - brass or stainless steel is usual, the brass is often chromed but the chrome itself won't stop it rusting it's the metal underneath that's important.
