Don't use Zoflora or Dettol if you will be having cats in the house... they contain a substance poisonous to mitmots... Any disinfectant that turns cloudy in water should be avoided if you have cats - even walking on a dry floor that has been treated and then cleaning the paws can provide enough poison over a time period to cause harm.

You guys are great. Thanks for all the useful advice. Will try bio washing powder first then vinegar if that doesn't help. I didn't know dettol was bad for cats so I'll avoid that. Thanks for that tip.

I don't know if it's real lino or not. Whatever it is to me it looks pretty ugly. Maybe I will change my mind after washing it though.

What I found in the shop was natrium bikarbonat or something like that. But it was only in small sachets. Boyfriend who is a Swedish chemist couldn't find it either. Bak Pulvar is only half sodium bicarb (also has sodium pyrophosphate) so I don't know if it would do.

Hmmmm yes Natron or Natrum would be the stuff but honestly I don't think it's much used in Scandinavia... I know my mother looked at me like I'd gone mad with my 2 kg tub of bicarb (for making bath bombs!!!!!) hey... maybe you could try craft shops? Any there that do bath bomb kits? Same stuff...
bicarb of soda is what matters...
Vinegar I'm still scratching my head over :)
If I think of something I'll let ya know :)

    bah, just use baby powder!

DS1 sprayed it all over the loo once, and I swear since then it has smelled lovely, got rid of the wee smell from round the loo.

Was messy though... and best to wear a mask!

Mother in Law laughed and told us when bro in law was younger he spilled parafin oil in his bedroom carpet, nothing shifted it till a few weeks later he played with the baby powder.... They hoovered it up and voila! Parafin oil smell and the oil was gone!
